Then they took out one ticket each. For the coming year, the girl whose name went to the young man became his "Valentina" and he became her "Valentine" in exchange. This meant that for a year there was a relationship between young people similar to those that appeared between a knight and his "lady of the heart." according to the stories of medieval novels.
