I started making these wrinkled canvas paintings in 2015 but they were stored away for about 5 years. I just pulled them out and started working on them again. I am working on these paintings while also painting tablets, which reference cellphones.These paintings are a continuation of exploring nonrepresentational abstraction and substrate manipulation. From making collages that play with landscape by dissecting foreground, middle ground and background into color fields. And experimentation with painting on foam. I am interested in the meta-characteristics of a painting — substrate (eg, stretched canvas), surface texture, and forms (eg shapes becoming things).
